Who Can I Help

Complex Trauma and Relational Difficulties

High Sensitivity and Neurodiversity

Spiritual Issues

Breakdown, Burnout, Overwhelm and Crisis

My work has evolved into four main strands:

Breakdown, Overwhelm, Crisis

Often people contact me at times of burnout, breakdown, crisis or collapse of some kind.

Sometimes this has arisen when old strategies are no longer working. At other times a change of some kind has brought about a crisis.

There can be a great sense of disorientation, shame, fear and loss of confidence at times like this. It can seem as though the familiar ground has given way and there is no way forward, or at least no way forward without some sort of catastrophe or significant loss.

I provide a steady holding during times of breakdown and collapse and support the transition to a new and more integrated way forward.

...

Complex trauma and relational problems caused by early life difficulties.

Symptoms include such things as overwhelm, confusion, anxiety, disconnection, shame, depression, hypervigilance, self-doubt, ungroundedness, alienation and a range of relational problems.

I take this sort of distress seriously and offer a stabilising presence and a non-invasive holding alongside steady facilitation towards greater coherence and wellbeing.

High Sensitivity and Neurodiversity

Many of the people I work with are highly sensitive. This includes people with diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD and dyslexia, as well as those who are self-diagnosed and those who haven't pursued this sort of diagnosis.

I have a deep respect and understanding of the lived experience of sensitivity. And while therapy can include conversations around strategies and management, my focus is primarily on the secondary trauma caused by lack of understanding, judgement or ridicule of sensitivity within the family of origin and the wider community. I have found that when this trauma has been addressed, there is more clarity generally, and so issues like strategy naturally become more straightforward.

Spiritual Issues

Some of the people who contact me have some experience of the transpersonal or some interest in the spiritual dimension of life.

My experience and training have equipped me to support those who are experiencing difficulties or confusion in this area, either from confusing inner experiences or difficulties within spiritual organisations. I am also able to support people who don't have any problem in this regard but feel it is important this area is a part of the therapeutic conversation.

I integrate this realm of experience into therapy in a way that is appropriate for each person, and suited to people of all faiths and none.

I think of myself as working with the whole person rather than with problems or issues. But I do have experience supporting people going through a variety of things.
